There is a veritable sea of cosplay tutorials and guides available today, but sometimes, really learning how and when to utilize certain methods is easier with a practical example at hand. In this lecture, Frostylva will provide a full breakdown of materials and methods she used for her Mina Ashiro build, covering both costume and props. This includes how to pattern a custom-fitted bodysuit digitally, to 3D modelling and CNC milling and the philosophy behind transforming a stylized, animated design into a believable sci-fi costume in the real world. This lecture does not stop at the how-tos, but also dives into the why's.

You do not need to be familiar with Kaiju no 8 to enjoy this lecture. This lecture will not dive into the lore of the source material or the fandom, but will focus on the design aspects of the cosplay. For cosplayers and crafters interested in working on sci-fi builds or with a general interest in the materials and methods covered, this lecture will provide an in-depth road map on how to realize a complex build.

Materials and methods cover include: Choosing materials, referencing and planning, patterning in Clo3D, 3D modelling, making large modular props, 3D printing, CNC milling, vector drawing, airbrushing, weathering, spray painting tips & tricks, creating metallic effects with pigments, soldering, programmable LEDs, making a smoke machine, Arduino programming, silicone molding, cold casting, working with super magnets, making your own waterslide decals, building a helmet wig with detachable ponytail and building watertight fluid containers for props.
