Our mortality is an integral, unifying experience that binds us together, regardless of our cultural or religious backgrounds. But what does dying look like, and is it possible to roleplay it? What are the things that modern media often gets wrong about death and why? Medical doctor, specialist in cancer with subspecialty in palliative care, Pekka Haapaniemi, works in providing end-of-life care and has seen death in various different forms. They will discuss the topic of dying and what an approaching death looks like in real life. The lecture will be in English and will discuss trauma, loss, grief and the moment of death. It'll feature no shocking imagery, but may contain graphic descriptions of illness, bodily functions and consequences of violence. It's aimed towards a mature audience, but is open for all.

Content warnings: Death, anxiety, loss and grief, with possible depictions of violence. At least one imagery from movies or media depicting a famous death scene in popular culture. Depending on audience questions, may cover topics such as descriptions of gunshot or sword wounds or how a heart attack differs from a cancer death. Due to the nature of the topic, all ages are welcome but the lecture is aimed at a more mature audience.
Other accessibility information: The lecture will be entirely in English, both in text and speech. Audience is encouraged to pose questions in either Finnish, Swedish or English. Answers will be provided solely in English. The lecture is also a safe space to share personal experiences around death, but the lecturer cannot provide detailed medical answers concerning any specific medical case. It is alright to come and go during the lecture, or leave the lecture hall if the lecture invokes challenging or unpleasant memories or emotions.
