Dreams of the Pharaoh

All the time, the pharaoh sees dreams that are clearly omens. It is absolutely crucial that these dreams are interpreted correctly, so that the pharaoh can secure the survival of the kingdom (and his own power). Because of this, the pharaoh has invited to his court all those who possess the gift of dream interpretation. You have decided to try your luck. Based on the different interpretations, the pharaoh will decide, for example, whether to start a war or not. Depending on how your interpretation matches the events that unfold, the pharaoh may either promote you or throw you to the crocodiles. So be prepared to interpret for your life: the more detailed your explanations are, the greater the reward - or punishment - will be. The game is set in a version of ancient Egypt inspired by history, where unlikely but not entirely impossible things can happen. The game draws inspiration from the Biblical story of Joseph, who gained the pharaoh’s favor by interpreting dreams, but the game itself is not set in that story’s world.

The game follows a light system: the game master describes the pharaoh’s dream → players take turns offering their interpretations → based on dice roll and the players’ interpretations, the game master describes what happens in the kingdom → the pharaoh rewards or punishes the player characters → the next dream follows, same formula. It’s a drop-in, drop-out game, meaning that if there’s space, players can join at any time, and they can also leave whenever they wish. If a character dies and there are players waiting, the spot is offered to the next person in line. If there is no queue, the same player can continue with a new character if they want.

The game is about creative storytelling and risk-taking. Most importantly, however, the goal is to have fun, and playing does not require knowledge of ancient Egypt or prior role-playing experience. PLEASE NOTE! This game will be played in English. During Ropecon there is another version of this same game that will be played in Finnish. Players who speak Finnish are also welcome to this game, as long as they also speak English.
