The Nordic LARP scene has traditionally gravitated towards games with less focus on game mechanics and more focus on player immersion. In this presentation, we take a look at "mechanistic" game design in LARPs to show how game mechanics and simulationist elements can be used to enhance immersion instead. We'll discuss the role of game mechanics and what mechanistic design can contribute to the LARP you're making right now. We’ll be using examples from recent projects the presenter has been involved in making, including Lundene 1013, Kuolonmaat: Kadonneet Enkelit, Kaikujen Kivi and NSNK.
