”Why does awakening require pain? Does reaching an insight really need being hurt? Why can light be seen only in complete darkness? Even if it has been seen, does it still matter? The value of important and precious things is revealed when it's too late.
Is it too late?”
Butoh is a strongly improvisational avant-garde dance form, created by Kazuo Ohno and Tatsumi Hijikata in Japan after World War II. It draws from modern dance and employs theatrical techniques to express inner imagery.
Noel Rosbäck has been doing Butoh dance for a little less than two years. She found this dance when a friend asked her to come and see a performance by Ken Mai almost a decade ago.
Noel, inspired by this year's Ropecon theme, couldn't resist the idea of a Butoh performance, so she gathered enthusiasts of the genre to bring the performance to life. Everything in the performance is done by this group.
