There is certainly no lack of computer and console games based on tabletop properties. Many traditional roleplaying games have received digital treatments to varying success, ranging from huge hits like Baldur’s Gate to the cult classics such as King of Dragon Pass to forgettable cash grabs, and no doubt will continue to do so. A tabletop top game property is certainly no shortcut to success, so why this continuing interest in adapting brands that with few notable exceptions, only have a cursory audience? And most importantly, is there a recipe for a good digital adaptation?

Arto is a game designer with over 16 of experience in the industry and double that in playing and running tabletop roleplaying games. He has several tabletop game-like releases under his belt, including an official online multiplayer game based on Germany’s most popular tabletop roleplaying game, The Dark Eye.
