In this workshop, you‘ll design and make your own treasure necklace based on styles and materials used by Northern European peoples during the Viking Age. You’ll string beads and pendants to form a necklace that early medieval peoples wore around the neck or between brooches. The necklace can be inspired by a specific grave find or only loosely historical in style. You can also draw inspiration from fantasy: could the necklace belong to a fairie, a shaman, or a mermaid?
Vikings used glass, stone, metal, and bone beads, stone and metal pendants, and many other materials in their bead strands. All beads available at the workshop are not official replicas from the era, but they have been curated to fit the styles and materials used back then. The final piece could be worn during historical reenactment, larping, or everyday use.
The workshop is free but the materials are not. You will pay for the beads and pendants you used in your finished piece at the end of the workshop. Payment in cash or via MobilePay. Final necklace will likely cost between 10 and 50 euros. Handmade glass beads and metal pendants will be the largest expense. Clay, wood, and bone beads, shells, and modern glass beads will be cheaper. You can get a discount for an especially long necklace.
