Chinese science fiction has become an international phenomenon, with many people around the world now being introduced to Chinese literature specifically through SF. At the same time, readers unfamiliar with Chinese culture and society may find it hard to place what they read in the right context, or to make sense of the complex relationship between SF stories and China’s present-day reality. In this panel, two researchers give their perspectives on what to bear mind in when approaching Chinese SF, how to avoid mis- and overinterpretation, and how to get the most out of the reading experience.
