Nämä ajatukset olivat aikanaan Kings of Warin ytimessä ja ovat totta vielä 3. laitoksen puolivälissäkin. Kings of War on Mantic Gamesin massataistelupeli, jossa ovat läsnä yleisimmät fantasiamaailmojen elementit taikuudesta demoneihin. Fabaan tai 9th Ageen tutustuneelle pelissä on paljon tuttua, mutta myös omanlaisensa fiilis. Painopiste on liikkumisessa ja suotuisten tilanteiden rakentamisessa. Peli on ajallisesti kevyt: esimerkiksi turnauspelit saadaan purkkiin rapiassa kahdessa tunnissa ja aikaa jää vielä höpöttelyllekin.
Pelissä taistellaan erikokoisilla yksiköillä, joista koostetut armeijat valitaan pistemäärien perusteella. 500 pisteen pelissä kentällä on muutama yksikkö ja sankari, mutta yleisimmässä pelikoossa, 2000 pistettä, on 4’x6’ pelipöydällä toistakymmentä yksikköä. Pienimmät yksiköt ovat yksittäisiä sankareita, kun taas isoimmat ovat kuudenkymmenen zombien laumoja. Väliin mahtuu kaikkea kuuden Ogren Hordesta kahdenkymmenen vampyyrin Regimenttiin.
Tule tutustumaan peliin, pelailemaan tarjolla olevilla esimerkkiarmeijoilla tai mikäli peli on jo tuttu, haasta joku muu lämmittelypeliin sunnuntain turnausta varten! Tarjolla koko lauantain klo 11 alkaen iltaan asti. Välillä pitäjät saattavat tarvita taukoa, joten älä säikähdä, jos pisteellä on hetken hiljaista!

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a fantasy-themed game that you could play with just the miniatures you like? What if that game was also fair in the way that battles are not lost when choosing a faction?
These were the thoughts at the core of Kings of War back in the day, and still hold true in the middle of the 3rd edition. Kings of War is a mass battle game by Mantic Games that features the most common elements of fantasy worlds, from magic to demons. For people familiar with Fantasy Battle or 9th Age, this game can feel familiar, but it also has a flavour of its own. The emphasis is placed on movement and creating favourable situations. Time-wise, the game is light: tournament games, for example, can be completed in roughly two hours with time enough for banter.
The game is played with units of different sizes and the armies are formed from the units based on amounts of points. In a 500 point game there are only a couple units and a hero on the battlefield, while in the most common size, the 2000 point game, the 4'x6' game table can have around 20 units on the battlefield. The smallest units are individual heroes, while the largest can consist of hordes of up to sixty zombies - and in between, anything from a six member Ogre Horde to a Regiment of twenty vampires.
If you're new to the game, come and learn about it and play with the available example armies - or if the game is already familiar to you, challenge someone else to a warm-up match in preparation for the Kings of War tournament on Sunday! Demos and open games are available throughout Saturday from 11am until the evening. The demoers might need a break from time to time, so don't be spooked by a momentarily empty table!
