At the Bujinkan Sakura Dojo in Helsinki we practice the Japanese martial art of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, which is based on ancient fighting styles. In our technique-focused sessions, we explore traditional forms from 9 different Japanese schools of martial arts and their applications. In the Bujinkan there is no competitions, we practise the art of survival.

Some of the things we practice are: Jutai jutsua – locks, throws, and strangles Daken taijutsu – punch and kick techniques Mutodori jutsu – unarmed combat against weapons Ken jutsu – sword Bo jutsu – stave Naginata jutsua – Japanese glaive So jutsua – Japanese spear Shuriken jutsua – traditional Japanese throwing weapons, particularly the straight, needle-like bo shurikens Kusari Kama/ Kyoketsu Shoge – chain and cord weapons

Bujinkan emphasises taijutsu, i.e. proficient usage of the body. Correctly performed, the drills support each other and teach how you can move ergonomically and efficiently. The forms or traditions series of movement have their roots in a time when Japan was at war, and a large part of them are designed to inflict harm. Due to this we practice with calm and consideration when training with partners. More information: Bujin.fi
